Can anyone tell me the difference, if there is one, between interoperability and compatibility?

I found a definition of interoperability on Whatis.com, which I think I understand, however it said that compatibility is a related term and that products can be "compatible with a standard, but interoperable with other products that meet the same standard," or work through a broker.

Am I missing the point?

Explanations gratefully received.
