Here's another one for the Free Pint Portal's Reference section. I know we have a few encyclopedias but what suits one person may not suit another. So there's no harm in looking at what is a big name in the encyclopedia world. And the Columbia has been updated this year too.
Tha basic search allows you to find things by entry or search the whole encyclopedia for occurrences of your search term. You can also browse through a list of the entries if you would prefer. And there's a separate index of biographical entries available, grouped into broad categories.
Entries vary in length but they contain the sort of basic details you'd expect from a desk encyclopedia. The guide is the best place to find a description of entries. There's also a pronunciation key and various other details about the reference work itself.
The online Columbia Encyclopedia couldn't be simpler and with over 50,000 cross referenced entries, it should easily meet your day to day needs.
