Laurel Clyde has done an excellent job in highighting the uses of weblog/blogging software in her two-part series in Freepint. I thought Bar members might be interested in hearing from a blogger
I set up my Intranet Blog http://www.intranetfocus.com/blog a couple of months ago using some software that Laurel did not have space to mention. This software is called Moveable Type, and details can be found at http://www.movabletype.org. The various releases of Version 1 were free, but there is now a charge for Version 2 if you are using it for commercial purposes. It was fairly easy to set up on our ISP, and the instruction book is very comprehensive, though I will pay credit to Simon White, my IT guru, who actually did the work! (If that name seems familiar look at My Favourite Tipples in http://www.freepint.com/issues/160502.htm)
I usually update the blog on a daily basis, and find that it only takes a few minutes to so to write the entry and about 10 seconds to update the blog. The blog is supported by customised newsfeed developed for me by Moreover Technologies http://www.moreover.com. This enables me to track intranet news on a global basis and comment on important case studies or industry developments. My thanks to Carine Magescas and Brian Mackie of Moreover Technologies in San Francisco for their support in setting this up.
