I'm searching for any sources of statistics about small to medium sized businesses, including start-ups, that overcome the flaws in the usual official figures, such as VAT registration & ABI stats.
I need something that is reasonably timely, drills down to LA level and possibly wards and includes all sizes of business, including micro. I'm only interested in numbers of total SMEs/start-ups and not any sectoral breakdown.
I recall hearing about a database that was based on allocation of new business telephone lines but I don't know any more about it. Can anyone point me in the right direction, or suggest anything else?
Many thanks
