Using blogs as internal communication mechanisms

There appears to have been a lot of work done on the area of using a blogging system for knowledge sharing within a company.

However, I cannot find any examples that go into a lot of detail as to how this is achieved, as opposed to talking at a topline level.

Is anyone aware of any publically available work that goes into more precise details of how an existing company's internal blog works? Google has one, MSN have one, thousands of companies appear to have one, but what are their mechanics? How do people use, update and integrate their working routine with them on a daily basis?

The idea is intriguing but without more detailed explanations of day-to-day operations I can't visually properly how they work. Screenshots would be most useful.

Any pointers much appreciated.

Thanks

Martin
