Hi, I’ve just completed my MA in information studies and am thinking about my future career. My main motivation is that I want to avoid a 9-5 office job! I work best on my own with plenty of autonomy.
Information brokering really appeals to me, but I would need to build up a) experience with all the various databases, and b) more confidence, so I intend to register with some temping agencies to find other work first.
I see there are a few information brokers on these boards and would really appreciate their advice. What kind of roles should I be looking for? Should I choose a specialism, like law or business, and try to get work in these sectors?
From looking at job listings, I also like the sound of financial research – partly because it’s often part-time or evening work, which suits me; and partly, I’ll be honest, for the salary! Are there any people here who have done this kind of work? What personal qualities do you need, and what’s it like?
