As consumer social tools like Twitter and Facebook start to encroach on our professional lives should we see this as a blessing or a threat? Stuart Barr looks at the many benefits which these tools can bring to the organisation, from being able to collaborate seamlessly with colleagues around the world to finding out what thought leaders in your sector are saying.

What's Inside:

It can be a tough job keeping up with what’s going on in your personal life, but some great tools have emerged to help us stay connected to our social networks and keep up-to-date. Social tools like blogs and wikis also present new opportunities for working in a much more dynamic and collaborative way, and consumer tools like Twitter and Facebook have given us concepts such as activity streams, profiles and microblogging, which can be applied in the enterprise to great effect. These social, collaborative environments can be applied to organisations of any shape or size but they are particularly beneficial to very distributed, knowledge intensive or project-led organisations because that is where connecting with the right people and having the right information at the right time is most important.
